Biography:

Hikaru Sulu is a character featured in the Star Trek franchise, serving primarily as a helmsman aboard the USS Enterprise.

He first appeared in the original Star Trek television series in the episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (1966), portrayed by George Takei. Sulu's role evolved throughout the series and subsequent films, eventually becoming the Captain of the USS Excelsior.

In the rebooted Star Trek film series, beginning with Star Trek (2009), Sulu is played by John Cho. This iteration of Sulu retains his role as helmsman. Notably, Star Trek Beyond (2016) depicted Sulu as openly gay, honoring George Takei's real-life activism for LGBTQ+ rights.
